AIUsageWatch
A clearer choice

AIUsageWatch vs VibeMeter.
A legacy alternative.

If you are looking for a VibeMeter alternative, first identify the project. This comparison refers to steipete/VibeMeter, the original Mac AI spending project. Its repository now labels it deprecated and points to CodexBar.

Publisher disclosure. This guide is written by Guiix, maker of AIUsageWatch. It compares documented features and workflow fit, not independent testing or performance scores.

Which should you choose?

Consider AIUsageWatch for a compact remaining-allowance view across configured Claude, Codex, Cursor and Grok accounts. Consider CodexBar, the successor named by the original VibeMeter project, if you want broader provider monitoring and reporting. AIUsageWatch’s public release is still being prepared.

The original steipete/VibeMeter repository is archived and labels the project deprecated, naming CodexBar as its successor. It should not be presented as an actively maintained recommendation. Other projects using the same name may have different features and maintainers. Official source ↗

Pick a tool around what you need to know now

If you mainly want to stop opening provider dashboards, a small remaining-allowance view can be enough. If you are trying to explain spending or examine historical token activity, look for a tool with explicit cost and history features. AIUsageWatch does not calculate token costs or act as a billing ledger. The broader guide compares these jobs separately so a legacy product name does not decide the choice for you.

What an AIUsageWatch reading means

The filled bar is allowance left, and colour identifies an account. Separate Claude and Codex directories can appear together. Open the menu for reset times and reading status. If a fetch fails, the app keeps the last good number and explains how old it is. Grok readings come from the CLI log; Cursor’s included-usage figure is not assumed to be weekly.

Live monitoring uses your existing provider authentication. At a live Codex weekly balance of 100% remaining, the app can send a small request to start the weekly window. It consumes a small amount of allowance; read the starter details before use.

Common questions

Is the original VibeMeter still maintained?

The original steipete/VibeMeter repository is archived and describes the project as deprecated, with CodexBar named as successor. This does not describe every unrelated project that uses the name VibeMeter.

Can AIUsageWatch guarantee that I will not hit a limit?

No. Readings depend on provider data, refresh timing and permissions. Saved readings can be old, and providers can apply other restrictions. The app shows available information and does not increase your allowance.

Can I download AIUsageWatch today?

The public release is in preparation. The website has an illustrative preview and setup information. A verified download link will be added when it is available.
